Family vacation travel time is a great excuse to go to the beach. You get to enjoy the sun and surf while also spending time enjoying a quality leisure family vacation.
Spending time at the beach usually constitutes going for a long weekend, but sometimes staying 3-4 days at the beach can get a little repetitive. How do you keep your children active at the beach? What fun summer activities can you do? We’ve got you covered.
Family travel vacations are the perfect time to start a new hobby, or continue with a project you never finished when you were home. Here are some basic summer beach activities that can be done between just you and a child, or the whole family!
- * Shell collecting * Exploring tide pools * Harvesting shellfish * Photography * Flying a kite * Catching fish bait * Bird watching * Beach volleyball * Picnics * Hiking
Some of these activities seem pretty basic, but others can be the beginning of multiple fun projects with your family. The shells you’ve collected could be glued to picture frames or put in vases to make centerpieces. You can make a picture collage of your trip with the pictures you took. Photography can also be a way to incorporate your children into something special that usually only mommy and daddy get to do. Family vacation travel time can sometimes be the perfect time to allow kids to do something they wouldn’t normally get to do… like use the “big kid” camera.
Some beaches don’t allow harvesting shellfish, but for those that do, the adventure and rush of collecting clams, oysters, mussels and bay scallops bring families and children the feeling of being stranded on an island, harvesting their own food to survive! Creating a story to go along with your “hunt” is a great activity that can get the whole family involved.
If your kids are slightly older, catching fishing bait can be very popular. Your kids can catch minnows, bait fish, crabs, shrimp and other baits by throwing a small cast net or seines out to sea and dragging it back in.
